Moving Guide
  1. Get Organized
  2. Clean out the clutter and items that you don’t use.  As a general rule, if you haven’t used something 12 months you might want to consider getting rid of it. A garage sale or charity is a great way of doing this and you can trash the rest.
  3. Plan and organize packing supplies or arrange for a packer/ mover if you plan to outsource it. Plan on carrying all valuable jewelry with you.
  4. Organize and book a moving van and some friends if you plan to do the move yourself. If you’re moving out of state look into getting your car shipped as well as your pet’s transport arrangements
  5. Think about the plan of your new home and how you plan to layout the furniture in those rooms. Make sure you measure the space for appliances and furniture
  6. Call all your service providers and let them know when to terminate the service in your old home and when to establish service in your new home.
  7. Contact the post office and file a Change of Address form with them. Be sure to notify all the utility companies, credit card companies, banks, other creditors and family and friends about your new address
  8. Mark the boxes with fragile stickers as needed. It’s a great idea to sketch out a floor plan of the new home and place color coded stickers on boxes so that the movers know which room the boxes and furniture go to
  9. On the day before the move, empty and defrost the refrigerator
  10. Keep all moving receipts in a safe place since many moving expenses might be tax deductible. Check with your accountant for those

Lease

For some sellers, it makes sense to evaluate how much their home could rent/lease for before making a hold vs. sell decision. In the current market, where home prices have been falling and many home sales are distressed, this is a particularly important analysis for some sellers who do not want to sell unless they really can’t afford to continue to hold onto their home.

If you’d like to get a quick lease comp analysis to help you make this decision, call 323.463.0910 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  ...More

Remodel

For homeowners who are looking to upgrade their home, it often makes sense to evaluate the cost/benefit of remodeling your current home vs. purchasing a new home. In some markets remodeling makes more financial sense than selling and buying and in others, the opposite is true.

Some key factors to consider when comparing the remodel option to the sell and upgrade option are:

  1. The cost of remodeling relative to the cost of the upgrade
  2. The time, work and hassle involved with a remodel such as the need to move out temporarily and/or the need to dedicate a significant amount of time to executing on a remodel plan
  3. The match between available upgraded homes and your style/needs
  4. Financing costs and loan availability

If you are trying to make a remodel vs. sale decision and would like some free advice or support from HausAngeles (e.g., potential contractors who can provide you with remodel price/cost bids), please give us a call and we’ll do our best to help you make the right decision for your situation.
